I've seen quite a few speakers since going to Bradley, but Dr. Gene Landrum was by far the best and most inspirational. For those of you who don't recognize the name, he's the founder of Chuck E. Cheese and a renowned entrepreneur. He glazed over his accomplishments and briefly mentioned where he started and how he achieved his success, but more importantly he...
The closer it gets to graduation, the more I'm considering what I want to do with my time once I'm out of school. Between juggling work, school, and applying for jobs it's been a stressful whirlwind of emotions. Now that the time is quickly approaching, I want to start incorporating new things into my daily routine to transition myself into a happy and...
It's nearing that time...aka graduation (yikes) and it's time to find yourself a job. It's not easy conducting the search, especially when we have homework, classes, current jobs/internships and a billion other things in-between. Just know you're not alone and I understand your struggle. Here are a few lessons I've learned along this exhausting journey. I hope it either helps you or makes...
The world is a pretty big place, and although seeing all of it in a lifetime is pretty impossible, there are still plenty of opportunities to explore. Since I’m just finishing up my senior year of college, the debt is piled high and unfortunately traveling has to be moved to the backburner. Even though I have to wait, I’ve decided to start compiling...
It's been a whirlwind of a semester. Between senior projects, my internship, job searching, and everything else in-between it's hard to find time to breath. It's easy to feel stress on a daily basis and sometimes I let it get the best of me, even when it was a good day. I think when life gets overwhelming we tend to focus on the...
I'm always on the hunt for new music to download. Whether it's a few years old or recently released, I love having new music to listen to. I usually listen to a wide range of music (pop, classical, musicals, country, techno, punk, rock, etc). A lot of times I go through different genre phases every week. For those that are looking for something...
Each year college seems to go by faster and before you know it you're a senior holding a black coffee in one hand and a crumpled up job application in the other (probably on the verge of a mental breakdown). It's easily the craziest year of your college career and it has the ability to truly wear you down, but with a few...
With Spring Break just around the corner, I thought about how one of my goals for the semester was to read more. It's something I've always enjoyed, but life has run a bit ahead of me and my hobbies have been put on hold in result. Now that a break is coming up, it's the perfect time to get started again and dive...
The dreaded LDR: A relationship that most people try to avoid, but many end up stuck in anyways. There are a lot of people who believe they simply don't work, how could they? Is it a real relationship anyways? What's the point? Is it really worth it? When you meet the right person, even with hundreds or thousands of miles in-between, it's definitely...
Pride and Prejudice You have probably have heard of this one and there are a handful of other versions out there. Based off of Jane Austen's famous novel, this story is a tale of love, poverty, and independence. This one is by far my favorite version. Keira Nightly does a great job at playing Elizabeth Bennet and Matthew Macfadyen as the brooding, but...
I was pretty excited to intern for the 2017 Chicago Auto Show this week, but if there's anything I've learned, life never goes as planned. After a busy and successful day of checking out the show floor, preparing "The Media Center", and completing other typical intern tasks, I prepared for bed excited for another day of learning. Everything seemed to be going fine, except...
I’m talking
about right before bed when everyone is asleep and you’re alone to your
thoughts. When your friends are busy and the only person to keep you company over
the weekend is yourself. Those points in time when the world is paying to
attention to everyone and everything else except you.
Sound a bit
scary now?
Maybe it does,
maybe it doesn’t. For some people, they relish in the alone time. This is when
they are completely in their element. For a lot of people though, it’s
intimidating. There are quite a few people in my life I know who will do
everything possible to never be alone and they will surround themselves with
people at all times.
There’s nothing wrong
with socializing, but there’s something to be said about being fully happy
and content with yourself. It all leads to the idea that you have to find a
happiness within yourself to truly feel at peace with the world around you.
It’s something
that takes time, but I encourage everyone to practice being alone and feeling a
sense of content in it. Read a book, watch your favorite movie. Enjoy “you”
time, because usually we don't do that enough.
It might feel like you're alone, but you're really not. You're enjoy time with yourself. That's the best company to have.
Do you ever have those days (or even weeks) where everything seems to be going wrong? Sometimes life gives us a good kick in the butt and we usually don't expect the punch. It's easy to wallow in the negative and question absolutely everything your doing. For those moments when you just want to fall to your knees and give up-read these quotes....
Who doesn't love lists right? Well, maybe some people don't. I don't have room for that kind of negativity in my life though. Next to heaping bowls of ice cream and adorable puppies, lists are a very real obsession of mine (grocery lists, to do-list, the whole ordeal). Not only are they a great way to stay organized, but they help me reflect...
